Head Studies with a Color Approach

IN PERSON at Oregon Art Center (formerly Oregon Society of Artists) in Portland, Oregon.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, November 20 - 22, 2026, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Doors open 8:30 am.

Working from the model, we will use adopted color schemes with the aim of designing a beautiful painting with cohesive color. Aimee's lecture and demos will address the problems of color strategy and painterly approach.

Please tone your panels a mid-to-light taupe/gray color, nothing really bright or dark. My materials list no longer lists paint colors. Use the colors you have or add one or two new ones; no need to buy a whole new set of colors unless you want to. It's best to start with what you know.

Plein Air in France

IN PERSON. Hosted by Workshops in France. April 27-May 5, 2026 in France.

Spend nine unforgettable days living the dream, saying "oui," and honing your plein air skills in this iconic region of France. We will stay in a château (of course) in the countryside of Normandy; we will eat French cuisine (baguettes and brie, anyone?) and visit some of the surroundings including places where Monet and Van Gogh painted. Walk in their footsteps, breathe their air, get your paints out. Painting locations will all be French: markets, vistas, villages, even the clouds are French.

Fruit, Flowers, and Fun: the Backlit Still Life

IN PERSON. Hosted by Acrylic University on Camano Island, Washington. June 23-26, 2026. Medium: acrylic or oil. Demos will be in both mediums.

This is a four day paint-from-life workshop in the studio. Still life provides us the opportunity to set up challenges so we can paint to learn.

Did you know: there are three types of still life: formal, found, and part of a larger scene. In this workshop we will do smaller setups and study how backlighting works. Good news! It simplifies things! And if you'd rather do front lit, that's fine too. Weather permitting, outdoor setups will be an option as well. Start with what you do know and gain skills by doing exercises that isolate different aspects of painting and will inform your decisions from here on. Fun and informative workshop for all skill levels.

Stay close to the LPAPA Gallery and everything is within walking distance.

Please note the split schedule: the workshop starts on a Sunday evening, has morning and evening sessions Monday through Thursday, and concludes with a morning paint-out and lunch on Friday. This makes for easier travel, and allows siestas.

Hydra sounds AMAZING. It's accessible by ferry and since the citizens voted to preserve the architecture and character, there are no wheeled vehicles on the island. Charm, anyone?
